Getting There

Takeo is about 80 km from Phnom Penh. The most common way to get there is by bus or minivan. Companies such as Mekong Express and Capitol Tours operate routes to Takeo. Minivans can be slightly faster, taking around 1.5 to 2 hours and costing $4 to $6 USD. Private taxis or rideshare apps can also be arranged but are more expensive, around $25 to $35 USD each way.

Getting Around

Within Takeo town, tuk-tuks are the main form of local transport. Hiring a tuk-tuk for short trips typically costs $2 to $5 USD depending on distance. Motorbike rentals are available in town for about $7 to $10 USD per day, providing more flexibility for visiting Phnom Chisor or nearby villages. Walking is an option in the town center, but distances to main attractions require motorized transport.

What to See

Phnom Chisor Temple: A 11th-century hilltop temple about 26 km from Takeo town. Entry fee is $1 USD. The climb to the top involves stairs but rewards with views over the rice fields. Ta Prohm Temple (Takeo): A smaller Angkorian temple site within 5 km of town. Entry is free. It is less maintained but provides a quiet place to see ancient ruins. Takeo Provincial Museum: A small museum in town presenting local history and artifacts. Entry is free or voluntary donation. Local markets: The central market in Takeo town provides insight into daily life and local produce.

Food & Drink

Takeo’s food scene is basic, with small local restaurants and street vendors. Typical meals cost between $2 and $5 USD. Common dishes include Khmer staples like rice with grilled fish, noodle soups, and fried noodles. The town’s markets are good places to find fresh fruit and snacks.
