Getting There

From Phnom Penh, you can reach Tbong Khmum by bus or private taxi. Buses run from Phnom Penh's central bus station (Phsar Thmei) to Suong town, the provincial capital. Bus companies such as Phnom Penh Sorya and Capitol have daily departures. The journey takes about 3.5 to 4 hours and costs around $5 to $7 USD per person. Private taxis or car hires are available and can cost around $40 to $60 USD for a one-way trip, depending on negotiation.

Within Tbong Khmum, local transport mainly consists of tuk-tuks and motorbike taxis. Tuk-tuk rides typically cost between $2 to $5 USD for short distances within towns. Renting a motorbike is a common option for travelers who want to move independently; rental prices range from $7 to $10 USD per day. Roads outside main towns can be rough, so motorbike use requires caution.

What to See

Phnom Srok Temple is an ancient Hindu temple ruin located about 20 km from Suong town. Entry is free, but facilities are minimal. The Mekong River near the southern edge of the province provides river views and local fishing villages. Suong Market is a place to see daily trade and local goods, with no entry fee. The Koh Nhek District is known for rubber plantations, which visitors can view from the roadside but are not open for tours.

Local food in Tbong Khmum is typical Cambodian provincial fare. Dishes like amok fish, grilled meats, and noodle soups are common.
