New Year's Day

New Year's Day

1 January 2027
Nationwide
New Year's Day on January 1, 2027, marks a national holiday across Cambodia, welcoming the beginning of the new calendar year. It is a public day off for most citizens, providing an opportunity for families and friends to gather and reflect on the year ahead. While traditional celebrations vary by region, many Cambodians visit pagodas to offer prayers and receive blessings for health and prosperity. Cities such as Phnom Penh see a quieter ambiance compared to festive events during the Cambodian New Year in April, but some public venues and hotels organize special events such as cultural performances and fireworks in the evening. Local markets and shops may operate with reduced hours. Visitors will notice an emphasis on peaceful reflection instead of large-scale celebrations. Transport services generally run on holiday schedules, and some tourist sites may have limited opening times. The day serves as a moment for Cambodians to rest and prepare for activities in the year to come.

Tips for Attending

  • •Plan ahead for limited public transport and business hours on January 1.
  • •Consider visiting pagodas early in the day for traditional blessings.
  • •Book accommodations and any special event tickets well in advance.
  • •Respect local customs by dressing modestly when visiting religious sites.
  • •Use this quieter day to enjoy Cambodia’s cultural sites without crowds.

What sets my tour apart? My tour goes beyond typical sightseeing by combining Phnom Penh’s landmarks with hidden gems, offering travelers a deeper understanding of Cambodia’s history, culture, and daily life. From the Independence Monument and King Norodom Sihanouk Statue to the Royal Palace (exterior view) and National Museum, I share stories of Cambodia’s journey—from independence in 1953 to peace in 1993 and the nation’s growth today. What makes this tour unique is the personal storytelling of a licensed local guide, enriched with visits to a Buddhist monastery, lively alleyways, and vibrant markets like the Central Market and Night Market. Travelers not only see the sights but also experience the city’s resilience, spirituality, and modern vibrancy.
